Questions

Owners’ questions, before the first call

Do you only work with companies in Salt Lake City?

No. Our office is in Sugar House, but most clients meet us by video from wherever their business is. Every document is signed online.

Why a flat fee instead of hourly?

Because owners budget. A flat fee means you know the cost before we start, and you never hesitate to call us with a question about the job.

What if the work turns out bigger than quoted?

We tell you as soon as we see it, explain why, and put any change in writing. You decide before we do the extra work.

How do I pay?

Most owners pay half when they sign the engagement letter and half when the documents are signed.

Can you represent both me and my partner?

For a new company where everyone agrees, sometimes, with both of you consenting in writing. Once partners disagree, we represent one of you only.

Do you handle lawsuits?

We handle the work that keeps most disputes out of court: contracts, demand letters, negotiation and mediation. If a matter must be filed, we quote it separately or refer you to a litigator.

Do you do personal wills and trusts?

No. We plan the business side of a succession and work alongside your estate planning lawyer, or suggest one.

What should I have ready for the first call?

The name of the company, who owns it, and the worry in a sentence or two. If there’s a contract or agreement involved, have it handy, but don’t send it until we’ve agreed to work together.

Ask us the one we left out

Ask it on a first call. We’ll answer plainly, and tell you the fee if there’s work to do.
